Rezz and PVRIS Collab “Sacrificial” is Hauntingly Beautiful

Last week Rezz teased her new track across her social media and it’s officially out! “Sacrificial” is their first collaboration, though Rezz has been a fan of PVRIS‘ music for a while. In a press release Rezz said, “When PVRIS sent over the vocal I immediately had an idea for the song. I love her music, so I’m really glad we were able to make it happen.” PVRIS says that the inspiration for the song is “risking it all for love even if the world around you is telling you it’s not right.”

PVRIS‘ soft, ghostly vocals are a perfect pair for Rezz‘ signature midtempo style. Though the wonky bass in the song has that signature Rezz flare, this track feels softer than her normal hard hitting tone. This more gentle touch creates an eerie but beautiful foil to PVRIS‘ emotional lyrics and vocals.

Albums that Saved 2020

While everyone is sharing their top 10 albums of 2020, in true Libra fashion, I can’t just limit it to only 10 when 2020 gave us one of the best years of music! Seriously, if you slip on your rose colored Airpods, 2020 kicked ass with its new music and set the tone for the rest of the decade.

If you missed my first article “Best Albums of the First half of 2020,” from July you can read the full article and album descriptions here. Since there are so many amazing albums in the second half too, I’ll give a short recap.

WOW! The first half of 2020 was insane for new music, and the second half delivered even more amazing albums. COVID aside, we truly were blessed this year. Not only did we receive new albums from Lane 8, Disclosure, Odesza, The Avalanches, and Duke Dumont, but we also received multiple remix albums in the second half to carry

BRONSONBronson
August 7, 2020

Amidst the media chaos this year came an announcement that shook Odesza fans to their core. With one single image the electronic duo announced the release of No. Sleep 12 one month into lockdown. I personally screamed for about 5 minutes and my roommates had to ask if someone died. While the new mix was a welcomed surprise, an even bigger one shortly followed with the announcement that Odesza and Golden Features had finished an entire album under their new project Bronson. Now, you can’t listen to this album as Odesza or a follow up to A Moment Apart, but instead an entirely new sound. Delivering heavier and darker sounds, Bronson fits the theme of this year.

Energy – Disclosure
August 28, 2020

During one of their many livestreams this year, Disclosure let slip that they were sitting on over 100 tracks. While they may not have release every single one of them, they have dropped an insane amount of new numbers between their Esctacy EP, Energy, Energy Deluxe, and finally Energy Special Edition. The third studio album from Disclosure takes listeners on a cultural safari with energetic collaborations from Kelis, Chanel Tres, Common. and Fatoumata Diawara

Club Future Nostalgia – Dua Lipa, The Blessed Madonna
August 28, 2020

Mentally I live at Club Future Nostalgia. Its the only way I was able to get through 2020 where the only place I visited outside my bedroom was the gym. Dua Lipa teamed up with electronic producer The Blessed Madonna for perhaps one for one of the most advantageous remix albums ever. Featuring a wide range of talented and multi-genre artists from Jamiroquai, Missy Elliot, Yaeji, Paul Woolford, BLACKPINK, and even Gwen Stefani, each artist brought something unique and special to their track. From start to finish the album delivers a euphoric club feeling of laced with the nostalgia of the 80’s when disco ruled the dancefloor right up to the turn of the millennium with Madonna.

Brightest Lights Remixed – Lane 8
September 24, 2020

Okay but seriously, what is better than a Lane 8 album? TWO LANE 8 albums. He jumpstarted 2020 with his Brightest Lights album which not only made my list for the first half of 2020, but saved my mental sanity. Then, in the second half of the longest year ever, he delivers an equally as stunning remix album sprinkled with goodness from This Never Happened artists Ben Bohmer, Jerro, Le Youth , Massane and a surprise CloZee remix. DAMN DANIEL chill. But also thank you so much for providing the soundtrack to my 2020. The original album was on repeat and then had to compete on Spotify for listens when the Remixed album came out.

Year Zero – Tchami
October 23, 2020

Based on the album’s title Year Zero, maybe Tchami knew something we? As in this year marks ‘year zero’ for both music and the world; then we all start fresh and rebuild in 2021. I mean he does have friends in higher places and our prayers were answered with its release. Its hard to believe that this album is the debut album from the father of future house who has set the blueprint for so many others. 2 years in the making, the 16-track album is a true testament to Tchami‘s versatility as he carefully meshes bass house bangers like “All on Me” with Zhu and “Praise” featuring Gunna with feel good tracks “The Light” and “Born Again.”

Dark Matter – Camelphat
October 30, 2020

Who hasn’t been sipping on Camelphats’s cola the last few years? Since their breakout hit, this house duo has proven that any track they touch is going to be phat. With the release of Dark Matter, they solidified their position as not only dancefloor DJ, but as true artists masterful in their craft. The album gave a home to some of their previous hits “Panic Room,” “Be Someone”, “Breathe”, and even included a special Dark Matter edit of “Cola” as well as introducing us to new favorites “Easier” and ” Inbetween the Lines”. The timing of Dark Matter’s release the day before Halloween, seems appropriate as we transitioned from the darkness of club dancefloors into the pensiveness of our homes.

Second NatureNetsky
October 30, 2020

The year is 2020 and I am crying to drum and bass? YES. After a four year hiatus the king of drum and bass, Netsky has returned with his album Second Nature on his label “Hospital Records”. The 18 track album features fellow drum and bass icon Sub Focus, Rudimental, and Hybrid Minds. Each track on the album is incredible in its own right, but all come together like second nature for a easy listening experience. Standout tracks include “Hold On” with Becky Hill, “Mixed Emotions”, “Destiny”, “Broken Bottles”, and “Let Me Hold You”. Had this album come out earlier in the year it would have easily made my Spotify wrapped. Everything from the lyrics to production, even to Netskys special album showcase from Antwerp Zoo were certainly worth the four year wait.

Out Here With YouATTLAS
November 6, 2020

Like many other artists this year, ATTLAS released two albums. His debut album Lavender God was released in January and showcased his talents at mood music curator. Unlike other artists on this list, instead of a remixing his album he gifted us with an entirely new album and concept complete with stunning 3D visuals from friend iamcyclo. ATTLAS describes the album as

a chance to catch my breath amidst this all. Calmer and more hopeful; it is the result of the small areas of positivity we can still control this year…”

I truly love how each album both compliments and contrasts each other. Out Here With You was a lovely surprise release at the end of the year to carry us through to the next.

Mr. Good The RemixesArdalan
November 20, 2020

Perhaps one of the saddest event cancellations I received this year was the postponement of West Coast CampoutDirybird would be celebrating its 15th anniversary and I’m sure were preparing for an incredible weekend to celebrate. While campout was greatly missed, the Mr. Good Remixes filled in for the legendary family set with remixes from fellow Dirtybirds Justin Jay, Kill Frenzy, OMNOM, The Martin Brothers and more. Each artist brought their own signature flare and take to their respective tracks, while maintain the weirdness of the original. It brought a tear to my eye to hear everyone come together to remix Ardy’s album. I hope that we can all be together for a family set soon.

We Will Always Love YouThe Avalanches
December 20, 2020

Can you believe its been 20 years since their debut album Since I Left You? After missing the note on their sophomore album Wildflower, Australian group The Avalanches are back in business with their third studio album. The 25 track album tackles the bittersweet emotions of life, death, and the in between as told through famous samples all wrapped up with a heartwarming message. For this interstellar record, The Avalanches tapped influential artists  MGMT, Leon Bridges, and Jamie XX to help tell its story. Overall the album tugs on your nostalgia with its older sample use, while allowing the listeners to feel present and hopeful for the future.

Well that’s a wrap on 2020! This year delivered on incredible music. I can’t wait to hear what’s released in 2021.

COONE Drops his Single,”WANNA PLAY HOUSE”, as Part of his Newest Album

Belgian producer Koen Bauweraerts, widely known as COONE, has returned by dropping yet another high-powered single. The track, “WANNA PLAY HOUSE” happens to be one of COONE’s newest hits from his album titled, ‘Loyalty is Everything’. Besides spreading his love for Hardstyle around the globe, COONE himself has been working hard over the past year to put together this 12-track project alongside his very own label, Dirty Workz.

Photo taken from Facebook.

“WANNA PLAY SOME HOUSE” includes an array of multiple drops that nicely raise the bar each time the BPM intensify. The lyrics, which include “Y’all want this party started” follows each drop with heavy percussions blended with a sound where Big Room meets old-school Hardstyle. One of my favorite drops has to be the last one where you hear hard-hitting notes comparable to reverse bass, a perfect way to end the track. Surely, with this piece as a part of COONE’s new album (hard copies set to release in January 2021) it seems it’s going to be one of his most gripping to date. Get Freaky with ONE&TWO EP Out Now on Nightenjin

One of my must watch labels this year Nightenjin has been delivering consistent new music from some of electronic music’s rising artists. The Freaky EP from ONE&TWO, an unlikely duo from Las Vegas and Kansas City, is a two-track EP that highlights the versatility of house music.

The first track “Freak,” is appropriately named as its ready to be played out at your next house party. Embodying the bass house culture, “Freak” is full of nasty chanting and modular wobbles that will get your body moving from the couch. The second track “Freedom,” is a total sound flip that kicks off with a tribal beat before building into a deep tech-house hook. The smooth vocals are practically begging listeners to slide onto the dancefloor.

Dance The Rest of 2020 Away with VNSSA “Dance Night EP”

While 2020 may have put a stop to VNSSA‘s festival calendar, she hasn’t let that stop her from dominating Twitch this year. Between channeling her creative energy into launching “Its Good TV” with fellow house artists Ardalan, Walker & Royce, and The Martin Brothers, and balancing appearances on Space Yacht, Desert Hearts, and Insomniac she just might need another year at home to relax. Furthermore, this Dirtybird diva has thrown herself into the studio to experiment with sounds outside her comfort zone. Showcasing her diversity as an artist, earlier this year she released her Dazed EP on Box of Cats, and now she’s back with another memorable 2 track EP Dance Night, which is already broke the #1 spot in Breaks Releases Beatport and #2 in House Releases.

VNSSA took a chance on this EP as its a departure from her normal sound, but the risk paid off because I think its one of her best sounds yet. Teleporting her listeners to an alternate dimension where break beats and acid basslines live, “Dance Night,” immediately captures the listeners ears with the commanding vocal over the break line. The second track “Out of My Head,” features vocals from Bianca Gardner and gives listeners a trippy techno vibe. Last but certainly not least, is a spectacular remix from The Martin Brothers Justin and Christian Martin.

“Any time I’ve played ‘Dance Night’ OR ‘Out Of My Head,’ the collective enthusiasm has been wild to witness. For our remix, Justin and I wanted to bring a modern update to the rolling & breaky house from the early 2000’s. PLAY THEM LOUD!!!”
Christian Martin

As sad as I was to not get the chance to see her kick ass live at major festivals across the country, I am here for all the new sounds and production she’s been working on in the studio during this down time.

Listen to VNSSA’s Dance Night EP out now on Trippy Ass Technologies.

“You Should Run” Towards Moore Kismet’s New Track

Written by Michael Placencia

The prodigious Moore Kismet is back with one of their most beautifully addicting tracks yet. Making their debut on NIGHTMODE, “You Should Run” will take you for a ride and never let go. It features the angelic vocals of Pauline Herr, and it’s those vocals that adds that extra soulful depth to this chill, House/Future Bass-esque track. It’s a great piece of music to just drift off in thought to. The lyrics will make you think about life, love and everything in between. But it’s that drop towards the end that’ll make your head spin in the best of ways. Moore Kismet‘s always had a knack for sound design, but this really shows a serene yet softer side that is much needed during times like this. It’s important to reflect upon things, and this track may very well be made for just that.

Rezz Takes Shoots Us Into Orbit With New Track

Written by: Michael Placencia

It feels like it’s been a while since we’ve heard a new Rezz track, but thankfully space mom is here to send us into orbit with this eerie new release. “Orbit” is a lot different than the typical release we’d expect from Rezz. It’s mysterious, full of vague wonder and yet it gives off that haunting feeling of loneliness, except this time you’re lonely in space.

The second drop gives off a more deep space vibe, but it’s a nice trip nonetheless. “Orbit” doesn’t give off those dark gritty harder vibes we’re used to hearing from Rezz, but it’s a welcome change of pace from the usual Midtempo bangers we’re accustomed to. Overall, this track does well and surely has us wanting more.

No Mana Shows Us His Secret Level

Written by: Michael Placencia

Earlier this year, No Mana blessed us with his debut album, Secret Level. But it turns out, he wasn’t finished yet, because Secret Secret Level is a welcome expansion to the original album. Think of it as the expansion pack to a videogame, or in this case the deluxe edition to the album in the form of an EP. And boy does this EP pack a nice punch. It starts off with a track we here at Trillvo have previously covered when it first dropped (“The Same Way”). But the other three tracks certainly impress. “Stolen Lunch” is a nice little electro tune that has a stomping power to it. “Floppy Disk Nightmares” is one of the standouts of this EP in my opinion though. It starts off small with a nice serene melody, before dropping into Progressive Electro goodness. This track easily and quickly became one of my favorites from the EP, and I would’ve loved hearing this on the original album, had it been ready by then. Regardless, it’s a keeper in my playlist.

Last but not least, “Should’ve Brought My Switch” is the perfect song any gamer with a Nintendo Switch can relate to. It’s got a great chill beat with some deep melodies and tunes that erupt into a solid beat. It’ll definitely put you in the type of mental state of letting your thoughts drift away (or along) to the music. This track is also tied with “Floppy Disk Nightmares” for my favorite, just for how well-produced they are. I honestly can’t get enough of this EP, because I’ve had it on repeat ever since it came out. No Mana‘s certainly more than delivered some essential quality music this year, and we hope he’s given a proper tour to showcase it once this pandemic eventually comes to an end. Regardless, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for him next.

EDDIE Lays Out a Foundation of Electro Goodness With New Blueprints EP

Written by: Michael Placencia

After what seemed like an endless hiatus, EDDIE is back with a jam packed new EP! Blueprints essentially gives us the foundation of what makes EDDIEEDDIE! There are tons of vibes you’ll feel from this EP, so let’s dive in with the first track: “Sleeping With Audio.” This track serves as a quiet intro, but one that’s full of progressive vibes to get you thinking when you’re taking a drive somewhere. “The 31-79 JGb215” picks up the pace with a pulsating beat, as well as catchy hooks. The deep chords that come in towards the back half of the song fit very well, especially as it opens up to a bigger drop than the first.

attached-EDDIE Blueprints 2

“No One’s Home” featuring Enya Angel makes use of her beautiful vocal talents. The track itself directly reflects its title, as it evokes a sense of isolation, but with an upbeat fashion. “Lawton’s Hammer Of Wanderlust” is classic EDDIE. With those deep, shadowy sounds and effects. It’s the perfect track with all the right elements to create such an exquisite mood. Tracks like “Somewhere In Between” featuring Colleen D’Agostino and “Shine” are some of the biggest standouts of the entire EP. “Somewhere In Between” is infectious in every way possible.

EDDIE‘s Blueprints EP shows off the best sides to EDDIE. From his most quiet to his rambunctious side, this EP has it all. We can’t wait to see what comes next from EDDIE. We just hope we get more sooner rather than later.

FRANSIS DERELLE & CRAYMAK REMIX THE DEVIL’S DEN

Written by B

I’ve been looking for something sweet to write about and this track definitely does the trick. Just in time for Halloween Fransis Derelle & CRaymak drop a spooky drum and bass remix of Wolfgang Gartner & Skrillex‘s “The Devil’s Den

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

If you like DnB and the timeless classic “The Devil’s Den” you absolutely must hear this remix! The track does well highlighting the original (the juxtaposition of two distinct drops that play well together to make the track) while also reinvigorating the beat with new energy!

Hope it helps you have a Happy Halloween
